Linn County, IA
Targeted location(s): Linn County

Planning Healthy Iowa Communities, led by the Active Living Coalition and the Food Systems Council will address inactivity and unhealthy diets, especially among low-income Linn County residents. Two objectives will include encouraging physical activity to combat sedentary lifestyles and incorporating food with high nutritional content at food pantries. To achieve this, the coalition will focus on multiple strategies, including:

  • The development of an Active Living Design Policy
  • The development of Active Transportation Design Standards
  • The development of Biophilic Design Standards
  • Refining Active Living Design Standards into a toolkit for implementation
  • Identify gaps in the food pantry system in Linn County
  • Educate city officials about how policies impact the food pantry system
